Getting to Know the Wynwood Art District: 5 Things to Do

Named one of the nation's coolest neighborhoods by Vogue and characterized by its vibrant murals and bustling retail, Wynwood is your Miami destination for art, shopping, culture, and cuisine. Whether you're here for the day or spending a few weeks in our incredible city, these are our five favorite ways to while away the hours in Wynwood.

Visit the Wynwood Walls

Get in the spirit of Wynwood with this outdoor mural garden, which features 80,000 square feet of wall space with artwork by creators from all over the world. The six buildings in the gardens serve as a giant canvas for free artistic expression. This neighborhood institution was founded in 2009 to celebrate the area's legacy of graffiti and street art. Wynwood Walls is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. until at least 8 p.m., often remaining open until midnight. Admission is free, or you can arrange for a private tour. While you're there, you can browse for prints, books, and other art-inspired gifts at the Wynwood Walls shop.

Take a Second Saturday Art Walk

On the second Saturday of every month, Wynwood's main thoroughfare comes alive with street performers, live music, and vendors who sell everything from original prints and photographs to handmade jewelry and everything in between. This busy, vibrant event is one of the best ways to experience the unique culture and spirit of this iconic Miami neighborhood. The businesses in Miami's premier arts district are open after hours. The party starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until whenever the streets empty.

Browse the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse

This expansive 45,000-square-foot exhibition space features one of Miami's best art collections, showcasing contemporary sculptures, sound installations, large-format pieces, and other thought-provoking works by modern artists like George Segal, Olafur Eliasson, and Anselm Kiefer. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from mid-October through April; the Margulies Collection costs only $10 for admission or $5 for students.

Shop for Unique Wynwood Finds

Wynwood is best known for its unmatched art district, but it also has a fashion district with everything from trendy vintage, consignment, and thrift stores to shops that focus on works by Latin American artists. Whether you're looking for unique garments, gorgeous gifts, or souvenirs of your visit to this incredible city, you'll find it on the streets of this neighborhood.
